I’ve lived in San Jose for nearly 37 years now. I’ve watched this valley change dramatically over the years. When I came to San Jose there was no Highway 280, no Highway 85, no Highway 87 … and Highway 101 ended at about Ford Rd. (IBM). I remember when IBM was “out in the boonies” surrounded by vacant lots, farmland, and a golf course. My how San Jose has changed!
But one change that I see is the most dramatic of all. We have become the epicenter for stressed-out people. And lest you think you are immune to this ugly condition … travel outside of San Jose for a while and when you return you’ll feel the muscles tighten in your neck, a dark cloud of stress will return.
All of us are affected by stress to some degree. Because of this, I will begin a new Seven-Part Series entitled: Stress Busters. We will use the most popular Psalm in the Bible as our roadmap, Psalm 23.
The Psalmist, gives us wise counsel on how to deal with the seven greatest sources of stress, and we’ll address one each week starting Sunday, March 30 at 9:30 am. Please join us. It’s FREE, it’s practical, and it’s real!
In week one we’ll look at God’s antidote to worry. After that we’ll move on to the curse of being too busy and discover numerous Biblical steps on how to relax.
All of us have been damaged in our emotions at one time or another, so session three will address the Path to Emotional Healing, dealing with things like guilt, grief, and grudges.
Because we’re bombarded from all angles with too many options we’ll study God’s advice on dealing with indecision, getting guidance from God to assist us in our decision-making.
If you’ve lived long enough you’ll recognize that dark valleys are experienced too often. In this session we’ll learn what to remember when in the dark valleys of life and what to do when in those dark valleys.
Who hasn’t been hurt? Once we’re hurt our stress level skyrockets! In this session we’ll address both what NOT to do when you’re hurting, and, what God says to do when you’re hurting.
Our seventh and final lesson in this series will direct us toward facing the future with confidence. This practical lesson will give us clear steps on how to develop a genuine sense of confidence as we look ahead into the unknown.
Let me take this opportunity to encourage you to attend Blossom Valle Bible Church for all seven of those practical and Biblical lessons on how to reduce the stress in our lives. You’ll be glad you came. There will be no pressure applied to you to join our church. (I guess that would be a bit inconsistent to the pressure someone who is coming to find out how to release pressure in there lives!)
Our services start at 9:30 am every Sunday. We’re located right in your neighborhood … within walking distance for many of you. (In fact, many of our members walk to church when the weather is nice.) We provide free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, spiced cider and donuts … and a warm, friendly greeting from the many happy people who attend Blossom Valley Bible Church. Please introduce yourself to me when you come. I look forward to meeting our neighbors!
